Denmark, the n°1 of the wind industry Print E-mail

Denmark has always been the uncontested leader of the wind industry ...

It was hard to miss it when going there... Small explanation about this renewable energy, Seen from the North!

Wednesday March 5th, Windfield of Copenhaguen.

How could we miss the wind-industry when going to Denmark the country where is the headquarter of  Vestas, the worldwide leader of the wind-industry ?  Denmark is the country where approximately 20% of the electricity comes from the wind… And where the ratio wind mills/ number of inhabitants is the most important in the world.

Last appointment before  4 days off, PCs  switched off (or almost…) and discovery of Denmark.

Appointment with Mrs Jersild near the Windpower office, Danish organization in charge of the relations between the wind-industry (investors, manufacturers …) and the Danish state.

We then go to the wind-farm of Copenhaguen. It is composed of 20 Offshore windmills and 7 In shore windmills which are respectively located at the open sea of the Copenhaguen harbour and in the harbour zone.

This field of 40 MW and of 20 windmills near the coast- allowing us easily to take pictures-  is held by a wind cooperative gathering 10 000 private investors.

It is the case for 85% of the wind mills of the country.

Small explanation about the wind industry

Concerning its construction, 6 months are necessary to a turbine to cover the energy spent to its production. It is one of the great advantages of the wind-industry compared to other renewables energy sources. (Source Windpower)

Denmark is the leader in the offshore wind-farm industry (at sea). The first wind farm ever installed at sea has been on the seaside of Denmark (at Vindeby in 1991). The biggest offshore wind- farm  currently running is Danish : it is the  Horns Rev  wind-farm, located in the west of Denmark. It can produce enough electricity with its 80 wind mills for 150 000 private houses.

It avoids noise pollution and presence of the wind-mills in the landscape.

The wind industry is hitting the jackpot in Denmark, what about France???

First, let us make clear that Denmark  remains one of the biggest countries giving out CO2 in Europe per inhabitant . This is due to the Danish coal stations and oil stations still  providing today approximately 80% of the energy of the country.

in France, it is very different. In fact, only 5% of the CO2 comes from the electricity production against 37% for transportation for example...

Second point, the wind-industry is running perfectly in Denmark thank to its large location in  Off-Shore or in  sparsely populated areas. Result: 65% of the Danish populationis in favor of an increase of the wind-farm.

In France, the Off Shore wind-industry is nonexistent but projects are in progress. Terrestrial farms do exist, located in in more populated areas than in Denmak...

Denmark and France are very different, it is thus difficult to compare..

In any case, it is a mix of energical solutions which seems to be the best working track in the next few years…

At least trying to do something with the renewable resources, and not just waiting for others. Respect!

"how many mobile phones can one wind turbine recharge in a month?

In one month, the biggest Vestas wind turbine can produce power to recharge over 87,458,540 mobile phones."

quelle précision ces danois!
