Another way of producing Biofuel.. Welcome at the Balbo family ! Print E-mail
 Balbo

A nice story which started in the 80's and which objective is to respect grounds and biodiversity while industrially producing sugar and biofuel...

You said you had no time for an appointment with 2 young French men? Ok,we will be there tomorrow !

We decide to arrive at the offices of the Balbo group, on Tuesday morning at 8 :00 AM.

After 7 hours  spent in the bus during the night, here we are, in Sertãozinho, small city in the state of Sao Paulo. It is here that the Balbo family arrived at the beginning of the 20th century to start business in the sugar cane. Queen in the caipirinha  country!

Their answer : they are OK to welcome us ....

Their main business : The industrial production of sugar and ethanol certified 100% organic.

Do not make a mistake, it is neither a small garden nor a little experimental greenhouse where 2 crazy scientists take care of their sugar cane with all their heart ! There are  14 000 hectares where grow  millions of sugar canes without any pesticide, fungicide nor artificial fertilizer.

The idea is to  have transformed the 30 000 last hectares in the same way in 2015.

It is the biggest organic agricultural project ever conducted by a company.

Years of research were necessary to produce today about 80 000 tons of sugar and 60 millions of liters of ethanol per year.

Here, the fertlizers are natural and produced on the spot. lThe weeds are taken off by the employees or eaten by the animals,  the wealth of the underground is so important that  it is only necessary to replant every 5 years.

Icing on the cake, the factory produces more electricity than necessary thanks to the bagasse*.The electricity which is not necessary in thus sold to the city.

Since the 90's, the Balbo group decided to change agriculture, the production increased of 20% and profits never stop increasing .The demand is so important that thesuppliers are asked to change their methods of exploitation as well  …

As Menezis, the CEO of the family group, says  : « Our products do not have a price, they also have a value »

We totally agree !

* : The bagasse is the whole of the fibers forming the stem of the plant and cannot be used in the production of sugar and ethanol. Current researches should allow its use in about 6 years in the ethanol production.

Je trouve ce projet vraiment intéressant du fait qu'il respecte la nature en prônant une culture respectueuse de l'environnement... Cependant une question me trotte toujours en tête ne serait-ce pas une réduction de la biodiversité si importante?
