| Soap made with worn fried food oil... |

|
It is inSao Paulo that we visit the soaps factory under a small shed of a hundre square meter…
Tanks containing worn vegetable oil are full and are quietly waiting for the oil to decant and to be separated into 2. Waste on the bottom and the pure oil on the top.
Five employees produce here 5000 soaps a week in a very basic way.
The oil comes from the restaurants of the neighborood which keep it for Triangulo instead of pouring it in the main sewer.
The oil must be vegetable oil but according to them there is no problem of supplying . They installed central cans in some districts to ease the collection. The restorers love the approach !
On the whole 200 000 liters of worn oil were recycled sonce the beginning... Not bad, isn't it ?
1 liter of worn oil and 350 grams of additives give about 1,2kg of soap. Additive are chemical products also used in traditional soaps. The team is making tests this year with substitute of natural origin.
Concerning waste, the loop is almost buckled. Financially, it is on the way to be … The small investment of 5000$ at the beginning allowed the launch of the project. PetroBras (the local Total) then subsidized the project. But the balance should be reached at the end of the year without any subsidy.
The adventure durably goes on… Shake Your Planet www.shakeypourplanet.com
