Late arrival at Lille after having finished off the files in Paris..
Here we are, we live this city ShakeYourPlanet was born ; our friends and relatives are behind us for ten months ... We are consoling ourselves, thinking that we will deeply enjoy this adventure, sharingit and arriving at the ned, with all of you, internet users, gathered together to our cause ! Anyway, thank you for your encouraging messages, it is boosting us, you can believe it ! ça nous booste, croyez nous!
Lille, arrival at 2:00 AM ; the following day appointment is being prepared in the car, the questions are ready, but the surprise of the following ady is big ! Sequedin, a small city of 2500 inhabitants next to Lille. a waste economic development center and a buses depot have been built on the site ( 13 ha) of an old disused EDF factory. What an amazing binomial, don't you think !
The Beginning…
Since 1992, Lille has been developping great communication politics about waste recycling. This long campaign is bearing fruits, today the inhabitants of Lille can get around with buses thanks to their orange peels. Mr Hitzberger, in chaerge of the industrial sites linked to the waste management of Lille Metropole explained us this long politiacl, environmental and economical procedure. Explanations…
Today, except the classical recyclings (glass, cardboards, papers…),the inhabitants of Lille have got at home a divided into compartments dustbin. C1 : the organic waste, 100 000 tons a year,( peelings, soiled papers, plants..) and C2 : the waste which can be incinerated, 600 000 tons a year.
The southern spot of Lille where we are today in linked to the one of Lille North through a canal and 2 barges allowing the transport of waste. 2 spots have been conceived in order to limit the moving od the collection lorries, ( great consumption and 3 people on board ). "These sites are here not to transport but to collect waste", Mr Hitzberger says.
IOn the nothern one, unuseful waste are incinerated (C2), on the southern one, the organic waste are tranformed into gas ( for engine) thanks to the methanisation principle. The Méthanisation what is it ?
It is the bacteria digestion which produces gas and a solid part.
In Lille, the produced gas goes directly to the buses depot and the solid part of this digestion is used as a fertilizer by an agricultural cooperative. Several ventilation stages are done, because of the strong smell of this solid matter after the methanisation. All this process also takes place on the CVO site. Nothing is lost, everything is being transformed !
The whole, political and civil will, communication and technology is, with no noubt, the miracoulous method of this project !

| | | | | | | | | | | | |
