A dustbin which stores more than it seems to be able to ! Print E-mail

Compacting waste thanks to a solar panel.  A great idea allowing the reduction  of the collecting rounds number...

Big Belly,  April 8th 2008, Boston.

At the time of our first stay in Boston the previous week, we asked ourselves  about a dustbin of a new style for public spaces. It is with a solar panel on its top that this small green thing arrived in the first city of Massachussetts, 2 years ago …

Why a solar panel on a dustbin, is it the new  « Green »  fashion of the cities ??

We took an appointment this week with the manufacturer, Big Belly Solar.

This great innovation, a dustbin a solar panel and a compressor, is displayed in a prominent position at the entrance of the manufacture.

The small 50W  panel allows to reload batteries slipped on the top of the dustbin. Automatically, a waste compressor is starting when the dustbin is filled…

It thus allows to store 4 to 6 times more waste than a traditional dustbin… 4 to 6 times more storage implies 4 to 6 times less trucks rounds to collect it. In other words, for a normal collection, 1 time a day, Big Belly reduces it to twice a week !

The brillant invention of this young 30 years old entrepreneur  is well sold in the United States, especially in the National Parks.

Its price?  3500€. It is expensive, but in some cities where the number of collections is important, it can be profitable in 2 years. One believes in it, especially for the places where collection is difficult... In the mountains for example!

The cities planning managers have to take their calculator! It is available in France at<www.qqqsdqsd.com)

For the moment, there is no competition with Big Belly Solar, they are the only ones having thought about it… Great !
